Maryna was a child welfare counsellor. After her body was found buried in a rural area a military police officer was arrested on suspicion of murder.

A 43-year-old military police officer is suspected of killing a trans woman and burying the body in southern Minas Gerais. The body of Maryna Colucci de Jesus, 34, was found this Tuesday (25) in a rural area between Jacuí and Fortaleza de Minas.

The victim had been missing since Friday night (21), when she left home to wait for a car to arrive. She worked as a child welfare counselor in Jacuí.

After the Civil Police (PCMG) found the remains, the sergeant from the Military Police (PMMG) identified as the suspect in the crime was taken to a police station. The investigation is ongoing.

In a statement published on social media, the Municipality of Jacuí lamented the death of the child welfare counselor and expressed solidarity with her family, friends, and colleagues.

"Maryna dedicated part of her life to protecting and defending the rights of children and adolescents, carrying out a role of great social and human responsibility. Her premature and painful departure leaves a deep sadness in all those who had the opportunity to know her and be around her," he stated.
