Samira was killed while sleeping by assailants who broke into her home. She was an artist who had presented her work at the III Potiguar Trans Visibility Conference in 2021.
A trans woman was killed in the early hours of Monday (4) in the Dom Jaime Câmara neighborhood, in Mossoró, in the western region of Rio Grande do Norte. The victim was identified as Emanuelle Samira Fernandes Neta, 27 years old. According to the police, the crime happened in the early hours of the morning, when five men broke into the house where Samira was sleeping, on Rua Vivaldo Dantas, and executed her inside the property.
The body was found by military police officers during a routine patrol. As they passed by the street, the officers noticed the door of the residence was open and decided to investigate. Inside the house, they found Samira already lifeless. During the investigation, police identified suspects attempting to flee immediately after the crime. Four men escaped on foot towards a wooded area. A fifth suspect tried to leave the scene in a car and was intercepted by police. There was an exchange of gunfire during the chase. The getaway vehicle was left with bullet holes and damage to its rear. The driver was arrested, and police seized a pistol from him.
After being tken to the police station the man was questioned and then transferred to the prison system. According to investigators he is suspected of providing logistical support to the group, assisting the transportation and escape of those involved. Police are investigating his involvement in the murder. The suspect was charged with discharging a firearm and armed criminal association.
On social media, ATTRANSPARÊNCIA/RN mourned Samira's death and offered condolences. In a post, the organization highlighted the victim's artistic career and recalled her participation in actions aimed at trans visibility in the state.
The organization also recalled that Samira was honored during the III Potiguar Trans Visibility Conference, held in Mossoró in 2021, where she presented a repertoire of her own compositions. "We bid farewell to this trans artist with immense sadness and sorrow," the organization wrote.
