Katie was a civil engineer and semi-professional model who had suffered abuse since moving to Reading. According to a community member she died by suicide.
Katie Bocon, after all a few days earlier you were telling me about your Christmas shopping: new boots, a trendy burgundy dress. You couldn't wait to put them on and look chic.
You were the quintessence of femininity, although only you knew how long and with what difficulty you had to fight for it. I had the honor of learning this story from you. We had some very specific plans... and what am I supposed to do with our ideas now?
You left at such a good time for you! You had so much energy, joy, passion, purpose. The last post you posted was Louise Hay's quote "When we really love ourselves, everything in our life works".

Someone who knew Katie said "she was always full of life and posting photoshoots from around the south and west of England and seemed to really be enjoying her life and living it to the full. This has come as such a shock to all of her friends."
In August 2024 Katie had been interviewed about the abuse she had received since moving to Reading:
A woman who is trans, who moved to Reading within the last year, has spoken out concerning all the hate she has received since coming to our town.
Katie Bocon, 50, said that she has been verbally and physically abused by members of the public on multiple occasions.
"I had high expectations for diversity and inclusion in the town," she said. "I thought I would have less hassle with people in Reading, but that is not the case.
"I have a really good sense of humour and most of it makes me laugh, but there have been instances where people have been really awful and even violent."
Ms Bocon said she found the whole situation very unpleasant and felt that she had been publicly shamed in front of everyone. She later that day reported the incident to the police, but said that not much action was taken. She has now reported five incidents to the police, all mainly occurring in central Reading.
Prior to moving to Reading Katie had been phyically assaulted in Trowbridge, Wiltshire. As in Reading, the local police were reportedly unresponsive.
