Amanda's body was found with stab wounds after she had left her home - reportedly after receiving a phone call.
Rio - The Civil Police investigates the stabbing murder of Amanda Soares, better known as Mandy Gin Drag, a trans woman, in the Jardim Nova República neighborhood, in São Gonçalo, Metropolitan Region, on Thursday (1st). The main line of investigation is that she may have been a victim of transphobia.
According to initial information passed on to the Niterói and São Gonçalo Homicide Police Station (DHNSG), Amanda received a call on Wednesday (31) and left in a hurry, leaving the house where she lived in São Gonçalo open and with the lights on. She didn't return.
On Thursday (1st), police officers from the 7th BPM (São Gonçalo) were called to a homicide in Jardim Nova República. At the scene, the military found the body and isolated the area for forensic examination. The body was then removed by firefighters and taken to the Legal Medical Institute (IML).
This Friday (2), representatives of the LGBTI+ Reference Center of São Gonçalo, a public facility of the Social Assistance of São Gonçalo City Hall, met with delegate Willians Batista, head of DHNSG, to monitor the investigations. The Center made itself available to the Civil Police in the case.
"It is suspected that she was a victim of transphobia. We will closely monitor the investigations. Our role goes beyond providing guidance and offering services. We also look after the LGBTI+ community of São Gonçalo, so that crimes like this do not go unpunished" , he said in a statement .
Amanda Soares' burial will be this Saturday (3), at the Parque da Paz cemetery, in the Pacheco neighborhood.
