Pebbles was found dead in a driveway on Sunday 4th August. Despite identifying as female on Facebook, news outlets and her family consistently misgendered her.

Pebbles LaDime ‘Dime” Doe was 24 years old. She was born in 1994 and raised in Allendale, South Carolina. On August 4, she was murdered in her hometown less than 100 miles from the place where Denali Stuckey, another Black trans woman, was killed in late July.

Details are sketchy right now and the limited media is misgendering and deadnaming Pebbles. She made her identity quite clear on her Facebook page where posts also implied she had strong relationships with people in her family of origin. Family members say Dime’s body was found inside of a car in a driveway off of Concord Church Road in Allendale County.

Doe was found Sunday by a passerby, slumped over the steering wheel of her car in the area of Concord Church and Barnwell roads in Allendale County, according to the State Law Enforcement Division. She had been shot.

In January 2023 Daqua Ritter, 26, and Xavier Pinckney, 24, were charged in connection with her murder.

Two South Carolina men have been charged with hate crimes in connection with the murder of transgender woman Pebbles LaDime “Dime” Doe in 2019.

Doe was shot to death in Allendale County, S.C., August 4, 2019. Her body was found in a car there. A federal indictment, unsealed Wednesday by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina, charges Daqua Ritter, 26, with a hate crime for the murder of Doe because of her gender identity, using a firearm in connection with the hate crime, and obstruction of justice, according to a press release.

The indictment also charges Xavier Pinckney, 24, with two obstruction offenses for providing false and misleading statements to authorities investigating the murder.

On Friday 23rd February 2024 Ritter was convicted of one count of murder, one count of using a firearm to commit a crime, and one count of obstruction of justice. Ritter faces a maximum of life imprisonment without parole. Pinckney faces charges of obstructing justice after Federal officials allege he gave false and misleading statements to investigators.

The trial was the first federal trial over a hate crime based on gender identity in the USA.
