Raina was hacked to death and dismembered just three days after marrying her boyfriend. Her own father had publicly called for her murder on television, and although Raina had reported the threat against her to the police, they had done nothing.
A young Muslim trans woman was murdered by dismemberment in Russia days after marrying a man and seeing her father go on a TV channel to ask: "Bring my son here and kill him in front of me."
[Deadname] Aliev, 25, became Raina after [reassignment surgery] in Moscow a month ago. A few days later she married a guy, also of Muslim origin, identified only as Victor.
The crime occurred after the young woman's father, Alimshaikh Aliev, discovered Raina's plans. Later, in an interview with a local radio station, he said: "They can kill [her], I don't want to see [her]."
Raina was originally from Dagestan, a region with a strong Islamic ancestry located between the Caspian Sea and Chechnya in Russia. According to information from the Russian television channel "REN TV", Raina was already discriminated against for her sexual orientation, which was aggravated by her decision to [transition].
Speaking to some of Raina's family's neighbours in Dagestan, the broadcaster reported that the young woman's father had suffered a stroke when he found out about his daughter's surgery, which took place in Moscow.
"She betrayed him. She went to Moscow, underwent surgery and turned from a boy into a girl," said a neighbour. Moscow police are investigating the case and have not yet identified any suspects in the crime.
Raina’s murder was not recorded in the official TDoR 2017 list released by Transgender Europe (TGEU) in November 2017.
