Jean's body was found in a drainage channel alongside the BR-282 highway on Saturday 23rd May. She died as a result of several gunshot wounds to the head.

At was around 7am on Saturday (23), the Military Police were called after the body of a woman was found in a drainage channel in the BR-282 in the Frei Rogério neighborhood.

At the scene, it was identified that the victim was a [trans woman] who died as a result of at least three gunshots in the head. The victim carried no identification documents.

No suspects have yet been identified but P2, Civil Police and IGP Experts are at the scene. The body was taken to the Institute of Forensic Doctor (IML), and is waiting for identification by family members. An autopsy is being performed to confirm how many shots were fired at the her and if she suffered sexual violence. She was identified as Jean Waltrick, 27, who lived in Santa Helena.

Jean's murder was not recorded in the TDoR 2015 list released by Transgender Europe (TGEU) in November 2015, but was reported by https://tdor.info.
