Kitty was shot several times by their partner and dragged into the woods after an argument over dinner. Frank David Bowles, 59, was sentenced to life.
[Deadname] Ray "Kitty Litter" Collins, Jr., born August 7, 1954, was a victim of homicide at home in Marietta, GA on October 3, 2014.
As a child, Kitty was nicknamed "Butch" by family and friends. He grew up in Sulphur Springs, TN and attended East Tennessee State University, [She] loved fashion and home decorating and loved to go antiquing and thrift shopping, taking simple things and turning them into something beautiful. Those who knew [her] knew that [she] had a zest for life.
In 1972, at the age of 18, Butch became renowned drag queen, "Kitty Litter," which would be her preferred identity for the next 42 years. She performed in more than 200 clubs across 36 cities in 12 states.
Collins performed over the years with drag legend Lily White, who grieved over the loss of her friend and fellow performer. Friends turned Collins' Facebook page into a makeshift memorial.
"She was like my sister," White said. "She was so small and petite, one of the most beautiful drag queens I'd ever seen. She looked like a doll."
White said Collins served as a mentor to younger drag performers.
"Everyone loved her. She didn't have any enemies. She was kind and sweet to all the drag queens coming up in that time period. Everyone is going to miss her," White said.
Kitty was laid to rest at Oakland Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery in Bowmantown, TN on Sunday, October 12 at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Jeremy Dykes officiating. TvT project: Project Q 09.10.2014
