El was shot dead in the street by the occupants of a vehicle in the early hours of the morning.
[Deadname] Simon, known as ‘El Hooper/Coil Bottle’ a 28-year-old trans woman, of Grove, East Bank Demerara, was shot dead yesterday morning at King Street and South Road, Georgetown.
Detectives in Regional Division 4 ‘A’ are probing the murder of the trans woman which occurred at about 2 am.
Enquiries revealed that on Thursday morning, the victim (who is said to be a sex worker), along with a 26-year-old trans woman of West La Penitence Housing Scheme, Georgetown, were standing at the corner of King Street and South Road when a heavily-tinted silver-coloured Toyota Premio motorcar (registration number unknown at this time) entered King Street from Croal Street and several loud explosions suspected to be gunshots were heard coming from the direction of the car.
Investigators arrested three suspects - including the alleged shooter - for questioning in relation to the crime.
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) — A 31-year-old man was remanded into custody until July 22 when he appeared in a magistrate’s court on Friday, charged with the murder of a transgender sex worker, Shawn Anthony Simon.
Akeem Fraser appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.
He is one of two suspects who the police said they have been advised to lay the murder charge against. The other person, Shaggy Mohamed, 23, is currently on remand on a robbery charge at Lusignan Prison. The charge of murder will be read out to him at his next court hearing.
