Gabriela's body was found on the beach of Ponta Negra in the West Zone of Manaus. Her face was disfigured and her eyes were missing.
The official cause of death was drowning, but her family says she was killed.
The pictures are shocking. Found without eyes and with a disfigured face, the body of the trans woman was found on the beach of Ponta Negra, West Zone of Manaus, last Sunday (7). Preliminary examination of the Medical Legal Institute (IML) indicates that the death was by drowning, however, family members contest this.
"A lot of stories began to appear. That she walked with people who are not well-regarded. We think she did not die drowned, but out of envy or homophobia, "said the aunt of the victim, Thainara Sales, 26.
Thainara states that the family's acceptance of the transsexuality of the victim was great, and that she has been welcomed from birth. "When my sister joined her father, she came over a lot. From the moment she transitioned, she was always welcomed. Our love was enormous."
