Joanne was killed by Donna Casagrande and Nicole McGuinness, who she had taken into her home in an attempt to help them with their drug addiction.

They turned on Joanne, stabbing her to death and then butchering the body to dispose of it. Her remains were found in several places including her strawberry patch.
